The old Zack’s by the Bay may be long gone (and with it the rights of passage in the parking lot), but on any given evening there are several Sausalito music venues where you can hear live performers, and one place where you can dance in different styles on different nights of the week.
Sausalito Music, Dancing and Dance Lessons
Sausalito Seahorse — Seahorse tops our list of the best places in town for singles to meet, because they have music most nights of the week and special nights for salsa, Brazilian music and other styles. They have regular group classes where you can learn new dance styles. They publish a detailed calendar so you can plan the best nights to go, and this is the only one of the Sausalito music clubs where dancing is a centerpiece of the experience.
Live Sausalito Music
On any given night you can usually hear two or three different live performances at Sausalito music clubs, bars and restaurants, and the quality standard of the musicians is very high.
The No Name Bar — Traditional small Sausalito music venue that goes back for decades, featuring Blues, Rock, Jazz and some eclectic mixes thereof. Ten different artists or bands will play here each week, one or two each night, and some have been drawing a loyal audience every seven days for ten or fifteen years.
Osteria Divino — They typically have at least five nights of live music every week, and sometimes they’ll cover every night. This Sausalito music venue is such a local favorite that when a customer trying to help re-position the grand piano accidentally took out the front plate glass window, the locals pulled together a fund to pay for the replacement. I’ve heard everything from Tango to Bossa Nova to Jazz to Blues to Gypsy to even Classical music here.
Presidio Yacht Club — Often has bands playing for events and barbecues.
Taste of Rome — .Occasional live music on Monday or Thursday evenings.
Smitty’s Bar — This is a true old-school local bar that the tourists rarely visit. Karaoke the first non-holiday Monday of each month.
