Ask Annie
Ask Annie is where we answer your questions about visiting or living in Sausalito. Any of us may reply, but our Editorial Director (the dreaded E.D.) demands alliteration so “Ask Annie” is the headline!
You can use the comments box below to post a question or send us email. We edit questions for length and may combine similar questions. We can’t answer every question due to sheer numbers, but we’ll do as many as we can. The archives of past Ask Annie questions are an FAQ about Sausalito, and are available sorted by topic in Events, Ferry, Hotels, Photography, Restaurants, Shopping, Side Trips, Things to Do, Walks and Weather.
Q: Is there (or was there) a restaurant in Sausalito called Jacks? — Kate
A: Kate, you may be thinking of Zack’s, which was a very famous local spot for many years, and which we cover in our Restaurantrs RIP section. The location is now Salito’s as it has gone through several owners and name changes.
Q: I need to purchase Ferry tickets for a trip between San Francisco and Sausalito for 40 people. How would I go about doing that? — Tori
A: Hi Tori, the best deal depends on whether your party is largely of ages 19 and under with seniors or if your people are mostly of ages 20+, no seniors. The reason is that there are two Ferries to Sausalito. The Golden Gate Ferry travels between Ferry Building in San Francisco and Sausalito, whereas the Blue and Gold Fleet travels between pier 41 in San Francisco and Sausalito.
The Golden Gate Ferry does not have group deals, but their prices are considerably lower if you are transporting mostly kids, ages 18 and below, Clipper Card carriers, and seniors. Your ticket prices would be $10 round-trip for ages 18 and below, seniors, disabled, and those of medicare. Clipper Card round-trip tickets are $10.50 and adults cost $20.50 round-trip. You might be able to get a deal with them if you email with your specific dates and times listed. Their email is: contact at goldengate dot org.
We have spoken with Blue and Gold Fleet and they have special group rates for 15+ people. Their adult and junior (ages 12-18) round-trip rates (or the price of two one-way tickets) are lowered from $22 to $20 per person in groups and their senior (ages 65+) and child (ages 5-11) rates are the same at $13.50 per person.
If you have mostly 18 year olds and under as well as seniors, contact the Golden Gate Ferry. If you have mostly adults and/or are interested in the amenities for the group, contact Blue and Gold Fleet.
The Blue and Gold Fleet travels between Pier 41 and Sausalito. We recommend that you contact them at 1(415)705-8214. That way, you can be sure with customer service help that the ferry dates and times work best with your schedule and that your group discount is accounted for. Blue and Gold Fleet also offers other deals available to groups at this link.
Safe travels!
