Suzette
One of the most welcome restaurant openings in Sausalito since the pandemic is Suzette, a classy French breakfast, lunch and dinner place in one of the prettiest spots in town. The view from the tiny tables in front is fabulous, as are the views from the window tables inside. (More to read below the pic of that great view — even if I took the photo on an overcast day.)
Their brunch menu is served from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, which all by itself made Suzette one of my favorite places, and includes a great variety of food for different moods. At 4:00 the dinner menu takes over, and both menus include seafood, vegan options, red meat and poultry.
For brunch I recently had the gaufres (Belgian waffles served with maple butter). The serving was reasonable but not IHOP huge, and the waffles were mildly sweet rather than mass-market-kids sugary. The maple butter served with it was heavenly.
At lunch I’ve had the burger, with caramelized onions, tomatoes and lettuce, served on a ciabatta bun, with fries on the side. They offer the most amazing choices of cheese for their burgers that I’ve seen outside of Europe:
- St. Nectaire (semi-soft cow’s milk cheese from Auvergne, France, about 2 hours drive west from Lyon),
- Blue D’auvergne (cow’s milk blue cheese, also from Auvergne),
- Boucheron (goat cheese from the Loire Valley in France, which similar to Murcia goat cheese — which I love — from Spain), or
- Emmental (a wonderful Swiss cheese from the Emme Valley, between Bern and Lucerne, in Switzerland).
I’m going to have to go back once a month and try each one of them. That would take too long, though. Maybe every two weeks.
