I remember watching an old TV show one time — I forget if it was The Twilight Zone or another show like that — and there was this episode where there was a shop with a really kind and friendly owner. And when the hero and heroine of the show walked into this shop he welcomed them, and they looked around and saw all these incredible things on display that they’d never seen before. So they asked the owner how he found such unique things, and he answered, “Every item here tells a story. It’s up to you to decide whether that story includes you.” And the shop smelled like… yeah, like my Mom’s kitchen on Saturday morning! So then they…
Oh, wait, no… Sorry. I got mixed up. That wasn’t an old TV show. That was what happened when a friend and I walked into KARL The Store in Sausalito.
All around us were unusual items. Gifts, books, clothing, jewelry, décor, furniture. Some were vintage and one-of-a-kind, some were new but still very different. Dennis, the owner of KARL The Store, greeted us warmly and invited us to look around, and shared with us that every item told a story. By the time you read this there will be quite a few different items with their own stories that weren’t there for our visit, but that’s the joy of visiting Karl The Store.
And I wasn’t kidding about the pies. Go into Karl the Store at 11:00 each morning and you’ll find a nice selection of hand-made, freshly-baked pies from Slice of Sausalito. But do go in early, because many days they’ve sold out fast.
