10 West Pier, Sausalito (SOLD)
2 bedrooms, 2 baths $1,350,000
Three Decks Offer Shade, Sun and Scenic Vistas
A Wide-Open Floor Plan and (Rare) Large Bedrooms
Will you sip your morning coffee on the upstairs deck, just steps away outside the French doors of the master bedroom? Or do you prefer breakfast right on the water on the west-facing living room deck? You could also have your dinner there, as you celebrate the glowing clouds at sunset over the Marin headlands and Mt. Tamalpais.
Just appraised at $1,439,000, this recently remodeled home has a sweeping open floor plan that makes both living and entertaining on a floating home feel like traditional landlocked houses. Custom all-natural white oak floors tie the spaces together within a warm and welcoming palette of colors. Two large bedrooms — the master even has its own walk-in closet, bay views and a spectacular skylight — offer comfort and convenience. The guest bedroom features views of the marina.
The spacious, elegant primary bath features a striking skylight that bathes the room in shafts of California sunshine. A soaking tub and a separate tiled shower will suit all your moods, and glass block windows bring in natural light but maintain your privacy. The downstairs half-bath is perfectly located for your guests.
With three different decks, you can choose between basking in direct sun and relaxing in a covered space for shade, and the rooftop sky deck offers romantic 360-degree bay views from your perch “on top of the world.” At night you can lie back and watch the stars before descending the spiral stairway to your personal deck and bedroom.
The private boat dock allows you to launch kayaks without the hassle of loading up your rooftop rack and driving to a put-in spot. You can paddle down the historic shoreline for lunch at one of Sausalito’s famous view restaurants, or paddle to the Waldo Lagoon community concerts in just a few minutes.
To top it all off, there’s a bonus room below, nestled in the state-of-the-art concrete barge. Currently used as a home office for remote work, this space could also make a great wine cellar, guest space, an art studio, a hobby or crafts room, or simply a large storage area. When the spring-loaded, lightweight hatch is raised, sunlight streams down from the main floor.

This 2-bedroom, 2-bath floating home will be a gathering place you’ll love to share with friends. In addition to the remodeled living spaces, this home features new kitchen appliances with a polished wood countertop and lovely tile backsplash, a new furnace, and a washer & dryer.
We’ve said a lot about the vistas here, but another view you’ll like will be the one in your windshield each time you arrive home: two dedicated parking places! Around here, though, you won’t always use your car. You can walk to community events, or kayak along the shores of Richardson Bay and Sausalito.
Less than one block from the entrance to West Dock (sometimes abbreviated as “W. Dock”) are a small market, a deli that’s been featured on TV restaurant shows, and a highly-rated casual restaurant. A major shopping center and regional transit hub for bus service are located several blocks away.
Just steps from the West Dock entrance is the southern end of the Mill Valley-Sausalito Multi-Use Path. To the north your bike ride or hike leads to the trails of Mt. Tamalpais and to the Tiburon peninsula. To the south you can ride across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco.
A few blocks to the south are a supermarket, the post office, an art gallery supported by over 100 local artists, and a wide range of coffee shops, diners and restaurants including American, Chinese, Himalayan, Indian, Mexican and Pizza.

This beautiful Floating Home is berthed in the heart of Sausalito’s historic floating homes neighborhood, just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, California. This is the area where Otis Redding wrote the classic song, “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” in 1967, making this one of the most prestigious houseboat addresses in the world.
65 years ago movie star Sterling Hayden and philosopher Alan Watts held their versions of the Paris salons of Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso and F. Scott Fitzgerald in this area. Although those large events — and the bohemian vessels where they were held — are now long gone, residents still entertain neighbors and host discussions on a smaller, more intimate scale.
Today the neighborhood is a fascinating mix of people, with residents ranging from artists to entrepreneurs and from pilots to interior designers.
