The 2024 Sausalito Chili Cook-Off
Date: Saturday, September 21, 2024
Place: Dunphy Park, Sausalito. (See map below.) Miss T. is delighted to report that dogs (only on leash) are welcome at this event.
Time: 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM. Wristband pickup begins at 11:30, tasting starts at 12:00 noon sharp,.
Entertainment: There will be live music from “cosmic-gospel thunder-funk” band Tracorum, who will play two sets. And, if this is your kind of entertainment, the Hot Pepper Eating Contest will begin at 1:00 p.m. with contestants attempting to survive eating round after round of ever-hotter peppers.
Deadline: Chefs wishing to have a booth must apply by August 23. For more information, please click here.
Cost: Entry is free, eating costs $30 for wristband that gets you unlimited chili from as many of the 20+ booths as you want to try. You can buy your wristband for $25 and save $5 in advance, or on site for full price starting at 11:30 (cash or Venmo only), and it also allows you to vote for the “Best in Show” chili prizes.
It’s OK to bring a picnic basket if you’re interested in the fun but not the chili, and lawn chairs and blankets to sit on the grass are also welcome. Wine, beer, and margaritas will be available to purchase.
Insiders Tip: There’s a drinking fountain at the Dunphy Park restrooms (which the city maintains well despite the park’s popularity) but the water pressure isn’t great so it’s hard to get more than a few sips. I’d advise bringing a water bottle to fill or refill there — the bottle-filler on the drinking fountains works great.
This is the 45th installment of this popular event in Sausalito. More information is available at the Sausalito City web site. or by calling 415-289-4198.
