The Sausalito Biscotti and Cars Classic Car Event is a once-a-month informal Saturday gathering of local classic car fans in Sausalito. The cars on display will vary each month, with a Featured Car parked directly in front of Poggio. The Featured Car’s owner receives a commemorative poster and a plaque. (Too bad my mother sold her original 1969 Mustang Mach 1!)
There is no fee to participate and sports cars, classics and super cars are all invited to join in. The rest of us are invited to gawk.
Insiders Tip: Poggio has a wonderful assortment of high-end breakfast goodies as well as coffee and cappuccino, so if you’re a big classic car fan and want to do things right I’d suggest arriving early to snag one of their sidewalk tables. If you don’t have a classic car it’s better to park in lot #3 or lot #4.
The original creator of Biscotti and Cars was the flamboyant Martin Swig, who enjoyed showing off his personal treasures. It now draws a community of car enthusiasts from all around the Bay Area and greater Northern California, many of them regulars, and sometimes the cars on display can overflow from Lot 2 up into Lots 3 and 4 in downtown Sausalito. Certain experts in town have also suggested that this is a great place for singles to meet new people.
I may not ever be able to afford many of these cars, like, say a 1961 Lotus Elite in Concours Condition (Hint: That means you pay detailers more to take care of the car then most people spend on their car payments!) but I sure enjoy looking at them!
