When we first saw portraits done by Sausalito artist Susan Jansen, it wasn’t that we were just seeing an image of someone on the canvas. It felt like we already knew the person, and that Susan had somehow found more than visible light to portray within the image.
Although she speaks modestly of her own work, we find it striking and simply wonderful. The paintings and drawings below are just a few examples. Scroll to the bottom of the page for Susan’s bio.
Susan Jansen grew up in the Bay Area and says she would never want to live anywhere else. After raising her family for many years in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, she and her husband have returned to California and are happy to call the Bay Area “home” once again.
A self-taught artist, Susan specializes in portraits, restaurant scenes, figure studies, and interiors.
As a result of her affiliation with galleries throughout the United States, Susan has participated in many group shows. Among her most recent awards is First Place in drawing at the Marin County Fair, 2011. Susan’s work is in the homes and businesses of many collectors throughout the U.S., and in Spain, Mexico, and Russia.
She has a studio in the ICB Building in Sausalito, and her Facebook wall features over 350 of her drawings and paintings. (Please mention Oursausalito.com when sending Friend requests).
