Cinearts at Marin Movie Theater on Caledonia St. Is Up for Sale
OurSausalito.com has learned that the building that houses the three-screen Marin Theatre (officially called Cinearts at Marin) on Caledonia Street has been placed on the market. The asking price is $1,950,000.
The structure is about 100 years old, and was remodeled into its current form in 1991 as multi-screens replaced single screen theatres across the country. The three sections combined seat 358 movie-goers.
A sale would not immediately trigger any drastic changes. Cinemark, the theatre's operator, has a series of three-year options to lease the property that run through January, 2019, starting in 2010. We do not have any information on whether Cinemark plans to exercise any or all of those options to renew.
For those of us who grew up in the area and have been coming to see movies here all their lives, the idea of Sausalito's only movie theatre being up for sale is still a chilling one.
