Marin Headlands Hostel
941 Fort Barry, Sausalito, CA 94965 Phone: 415-331-2777
For those of you that love nature and national parkland in the San Francisco Bay Area, check out the Marin Headlands Hostel. It is a certified green business located inside of old buildings constructed in 1907.
Aside from the military bases, the Marine Mammal Center, and a few other for-public buildings, the area is fortunately undeveloped. Miwok Indians inhabited the Headlands in the late 1700’s, followed by Spanish and Portuguese farmers and then the US Army in the 1800’s and WWII. Developers have tried to extort the Headlands, with projects like Marincello, but ended up being outwitted by locals that deeply cared for the land.
International and local visitors love their stay in the thick of the Marin Headlands in Fort Barry. With Ft. Cronkhite trails, Rodeo Beach, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Sausalito nearby, the renovated military hospital and officer’s mansion is a lovely stay.
