Host families needed for sister-city students in July.

Last year we saw a lot of community interest in the students who made the recurring visit to our sister city of Sakaide, Japan. Student Xinhua Eynon wrote an excellent piece about the trip for OurSausalito.com after their return.

This year about 15 Japanese students from Sausalito Sister City Program will be visiting during the summer to continue the tradition of a cultural and educational exchange. The students will arrive in Sausalito on July 22 and stay with host families for ten days.

Every summer since 1988, students from Sausalito have visited Sakaide, or students from Sakaide have come here. Anyone with a spare bedroom can be a host family. Having kids of similar ages is a plus, though not required. You don’t need to be able to speak Japanese, since the students frequently have studied enough English to communicate well.

The primary responsibility of a host family is daily transportation to and from Sausalito City Hall, and sharing family dinners with the students most evenings. In many cases on past visits students have become a part of their host families forever and stay in contact into adulthood.
