Our Newest Featured Artist: Evaristo Buendia
“Sausalito Morning” photo by Evaristo Buendia. Artist Bio is below.
Every day I am amazed at the talent of the artists in our local community. Our Featured Artists are just the tip of the creative iceberg, with many more whom we want to share with you.
I find myself just staring at the photo above, by the talented photographer Vari Buendia. I appreciate the artistry in the photography, the moment in time, and the fact that I know the exact spot where the photo was taken.
But now I see things differently. I have a new perspective on that one spot in Sausalito now that I’ve seen this image.
That’s the difference between an artist and a photographer. When you see the work of an artist it makes you feel something, see things a different way than you did before you saw the image.
What makes these fabulous photos even more amazing is this: the images have to be reduced in size and resolution to meet the search engine requirements for load speeds on web sites. Arcane stuff, but it means that the fine art prints of the photos are even more dramatic and striking than what you see here. And the same is true for the paintings, which are even more vibrant in their colors and detailed in their images when seen in person or even in a high quality print.
Of course, another five years and we won’t have to compromise quality for download speed, and just imagine how good these images will look then!
Evaristo “Vari” Buendia-Carrera was born in Mexico City and studied Graphic Design and Communications at La Academia de San Carlos, the School of Fine Arts at the University of Mexico.
After graduating with a B.A. in Art, he became a teacher of silk screen printing and serigraphy in the School of Design. Vari immigrated to the U.S. in 1994 to work for Spanish publications as a sports photographer and writer in Texas, and continued to work on refining his skills in screen printing and serigraphy. He moved to Sausalito in 2004.
Despite all his training in printing and printmaking, his greatest passion in life is Photography. . He won a national photography competition in Mexico in 1981; was invited to show his ‘digital flowers’ at the House and Garden Show in San Jose in 2008, and won the first place award in the Wildcare Center Photography Contest in 2009.
