Sausalito Police Post Alert for Car Break-ins
We just got this alert from the Sausalito Police Department and wanted to share it verbatim. A map of the area affected is below the alert.
Spike in Thefts from Vehicles
Over this past weekend, May 15th and 16th, at least a dozen reported thefts from cars occurred on Marin Avenue near Nevada Street and on Woodward Avenue. The thefts are occurring at night and during the early morning hours. The suspects are targeting unlocked and locked vehicles with property that is visible from outside of the vehicle. They are ransacking the vehicles and are stealing items of value that can be removed quickly.
These thefts are crimes of opportunity and can be drastically reduced if the members of the Sausalito community can remember to lock up their vehicles and not leave any valuable property in their vehicles overnight.
At the present time, the Sausalito Police Department does not have any suspects in these cases and is asking for the help of the community to report any suspicious persons or vehicles that may be out of place in your neighborhoods. Police patrols continue in these areas and all the residential neighborhoods throughout the city. Officers are also contacting persons seen on the street in these areas during the night time and early morning hours.
If anyone in the community notices anything that looks to be suspicious, they are encouraged to call the police department at 289-4170, or dial 911 for emergencies and crimes in progress. By working together, the community and police department can catch these thieves and prevent these crimes.
