There are some benefits to being the northern terminus of the Golden Gate Bridge.
In an effort to close a Recession-era budget gap, the Golden Gate Bridge and Highway Transportation District held hearings earlier this year and then selected the "most savings, fewest riders impacted" cuts to the local and commuter bus service lines.
Every commuter bus in the system passes through Sausalito (although many have no stops here) and Marin City is a hub for Marin bus service. As a result, bus service here will not be affected by the cuts. Transit maps look like the branches of a tree, and when they have to be trimmed the outer branches are more likely to be cut than the principal ones.
The bad news is that quite a few commuters and riders north of here just lost the best alternative they had to driving to work or school.

We're waiting to see the new schedules posted, but the only change to a route that has stops in Sausalito appears to be Route 27 from San Anselmo to San Francisco, which is gaining trips to compensate for cuts in other commuter routes. But Route 27 only stops in Sausalito in the pre-dawn hours and late at night (at the Spencer Ave. bus pad), outside the times in which the new buses have been added, so it's likely there will be no change there as well.
