Every winter the combination of heavy rains and high tides can produce street flooding in Sausalito and similar bay-side cities. The view below was taken last week near our offices on Gate Five Road, looking south towards the corner of Harbor Dr. This area was part of the bay fill for the hastily-constructed Marinship shipyards at the beginning of World War II, and has sunk several inches over the intervening 68 years.
Beware the Salt Water Puddle: A woman in line at Safeway told me last week that she had totaled her BMW Mini by plowing into a similar pool at high tide in Mill Valley recently. The salt water is highly corrosive to metal and short-circuits are even more of a problem in computer-chip-based cars.
