Joanne Weir’s Copita Tequileria y Comida
(“Copita Food & Tequila Bar”)
Imagine what would happen if Il Fornaio and Poggio founder Larry Mindel fell in love with the idea of bringing the seasonally-inspired Italian cooking style (which he has marketed so successfully) to Mexican cuisine. Then imagine that he was teaming up with his friend and author / PBS TV personality Joanne Weir, Editor at Large of Fine Cooking magazine, who is a deep expert on Mexican cuisine, tequila and all the lovely mixology that surrounds those two star-crossed sets of tastes.
If that sounds like a dream to you, your dream has now come true. Copita (“little cup”) should be on your short list of Sausalito restaurants. It’s also cool to just be walking down the street and see the famous chef walking by you with her chef’s whites wrapped in plastic from the cleaners!
They brought in Designer Anthony Fish to create a “hip Mexico City” feel without destroying the beautiful handcrafted style of the existing space, with original art work. They have a wood-fired grill, homemade tortillas, and (like Poggio) locally sourced menu items.
Something else that people should know about Copita? Did you previously think “Tequileria” was the expression one gets on one’s face at the end of the night on Cinco de Mayo? Disagree with any of our suggestions? Please let us know!
