The Sausalito Historical Society has an event coming up with almost as many tales of the bounding main as Capt. Jack Sparrow's diary. Legendary local sailors Tony Badger, Mary Crowley (whose work with Project Kaisei is so important), Hank Easom, Bill Martinelli, and Alan Olson will share stories of sailboat racing, cruising, and "making things interesting in creative ways that are sometimes referred to as rabblerousing."
Among the topics covered will be the early local boatyards (and the dawn of the fiberglass hull revolution in Sausalito), experiences sailing on Wander Bird (pictured above in a photo by Richard Allen) and with Crosby, Stills & Nash's David Crosby on Mayan, and tales of cruising to Argentina and arriving just in time to enjoy the 1976 revolution.
The Historical Society is kicking things off with a welcome of sparkling wine and savgory snacks, as well as a no-host bar. This is also a rare opportunity to see the fabulous views from Ondine, which is open only for special events.
A raffle drawing will also be held, with prizes like dining gift certificates (from Angelino, Sushi Ran, Saylor’s, Seafood Peddler, Salito’s Crab House, Le Garage, Sausalito Seahorse, Barrel House and Spinnaker) plus massages for two from Massage Envy, a history cruise aboard the schooner Freda B, and more.
All proceeds support "Sausalito Sets Sail", Sausalito's first self-guided waterfront walking tour, and a special maritime art exhibit from the Society’s archives.
The Sausalito Historical Society is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit and donations are tax deductible.

The Sausalito Historical Society has been preserving Sausalito's past since 1975. They're a 100% volunteer organization which uses annual membership dues, donations, and fundraising to acquire and maintain items for its collection and for public outreach through events, exhibits and publications. We think that everyone in Sausalito owes them a debt of gratitude for their unselfish work.
