Visit the Harbor Seals in Sausalito
Where can you find harbor seals in Sausalito during the March through June pupping season? The usual spot is on the docks of the Sea Trek kayaking and paddleboarding company, which is directly in front of the Bay Model. The docks provide a safe haven for seal mothers to give birth and nurture their newborns.
Weighing between 15-25 pounds at birth, the pups are born with thick white fur, which darkens and gains more texture as they grow.
You can park for free in the Bay Model lot, then walk towards the entrance (and it’s one of the most entertaining spots in Sausalito all on its own!) Look out towards the Bay, and during the springtime months you’re likely to see seals on the docks, as in the above photo from June, 2024. The rest of the year marine mammals may be resting there, but it’s far less likely — and once the pupping season is over the dock owners often put out obstackes to deter continuing visits.
