Our articles about “Hidden Sausalito” cover shops, places to visit and activities that long-time local people appreciate, but that newcomers and visitors might easily miss. These are places and people that represent the what people sometimes call “old Sausalito” or “the real Sausalito,” parts of the town that would exist even if we didn;t host tens of thousands of visitors each year.
Sausalito Shops
Pinestreet Papery — We are sad to say that this secret gem has closed.
Tapia Art Gallery — A Sausalito institution for the last 35 years. You’ll get to meet and talk with the artists themselves, and the paintings are as fabulous as the mood. They’ve moved from their long time studio to a private gallery, but it’s worth the effort to see their work.
Other Places in Sausalito
Caledonia St. Barbers— It’s a barber shop. It’s a time machine.
The O’Connell Memorial Bench — A memorial that offers us a quiet break just up the hill from the crowds on Bridgeway… and reminds us of an important lesson.
Shoreline Park — It’s not on any map, but every dog owner in Sausalito knows it’s there!
Smitty’s Bar — Sometimes people wonder if towns that draw a lot of tourists have a local bar that’s been largely unaffected by the visitors. We do.
Tiffany Park — Another small gem hidden in plain sight!
