Please Help Us Spread the Word about the Sausalito Ferry Shut Down!
If you commute to San Francisco on the Sausalito Ferry via either Golden Gate Ferry or Blue & Gold Fleet, you’re going to need to make alternate plans next Tuesday through Friday, December 5-8, and Monday, December 11.
.
.
The Sausalito Ferry shut down is caused by the Sausalito pier closure for inspections all day on Tuesday and Wednesday, and neither service will start sailings from Sausalito until 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Thursday, Friday and the following Monday. The normal ferry schedules will not operate on the partial-shutdown dates until 1:15 PM (Blue & Gold Fleet service to Pier 39/Pier 41 at Fisherman’s Wharf) and 1:55 PM (Golden Gate Ferry service to The Ferry Building).
The Golden Gate Bridge District, which owns the Golden Gate Ferry, is closing the pier so that engineers can do inspections as part of the preparation for the planned reconstruction of the pier. Divers will be examining the underside and interior of the existing pier and floats.
.
Weekend service on December 9-10 will not be affected, thankfully because that’s the weekend for the annual Sausalito Winterfest.
Alternate Transportation During Sausalito Ferry Closures
Tiburon Ferry to San Francisco
Larkspur Ferry to San Francisco
Golden Gate Transit and Marin Transit Bus Service
Bus Bridge. In addition to the bus schedules in the link above, during the days that the ferries are shut down Golden Gate Transit says they will operate bus service on a schedule that matches the Golden Gate Ferry Sausalito schedule. Buses will travel between a temporary bus stop at the corner of Anchor St. and Humboldt Ave. in downtown Sausalito (behind the Bank of America building, see map below) and the Ferry Building in San Francisco. We do not know if this bus bridge will consist of one bus or more vehicles.
Update Dec. 5: The District has just updated us that bus stop for the bus bridge service at The Ferry Building is located on the curb of the Embarcadero in San Francisco at the south end of the Ferry Building, which is the side closer to the Bay Bridge opposite the Market Bar (see second map below).
