The Golden Gate Bridge District has shared with us that all northbound lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge will be closed from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM on Sunday morning, July 23, 2017 to accommodate the 15,000 runners for the San Francisco Marathon.

Passenger cars, shuttle buses, taxis etc. will not be able to use the Bridge northbound, and will need to take the Bay Bridge and the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge to reach Marin County.
Golden Gate Transit buses will still run but travel under CHP escort. The northbound Golden Gate Transit bus stop at the Bridge Toll Plaza will not be used from 1:30 AM and 11:00 AM on Sunday. The closest alternate stop in San Francisco is at the intersection of Richardson Ave. and Francisco St., which is 2 miles from the Toll Plaza. (See map below.)

The southbound lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge will be open to cars as usual, and the sidewalks will operate under the usual rules for bicycles and for pedestrians.
Traditionally only two lanes of traffic on the Bridge were closed for the Marathon, but in light of vehicles being used as weapons in civilian attacks in France, Germany, Sweden and the UK, San Francisco elected to close the northbound lanes completely this year on a trial basis.
