Pandemic Update: The Muir Woods Café has temporarily been reconfigured as a take-out service with a reduced menu to comply with Covid guidelines. Small tables and some chairs and benches are outside on the large deck.

The Muir Woods Cafe is a welcome sight after a strenuous hike on the trails around Muir Woods National Monument, with a nice assortment of meals and beverages.
Actually, it looks pretty good to me the minute I get off the Muir Woods Shuttle!
The Muir Woods Cafe features a menu and preparation methods focused on sustainability and local ingredients, as well as making a minimal impact on the redwood forest. Their “Easy as 1-2-3” trash sorting and disposal system recycles and composts nearly 90% of the restaurant’s waste. They also have kids’ meals and senior discounts.
The cafe’s grilled cheese sandwich (which features locally made cheeses and local artisan bread) was featured recently in a Tyler Florence segment on the Food Network show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate,” which sent a lot of foodies to Muir Woods who otherwise would never have experienced the beauty of the park.
Food choices include local organic breads, cheeses, and pastries, which are also used in the salads and sandwiches. Fruits and vegetables come from local farms, which is practical even high on the mountain since West Marin County is a largely rural area.
They also have great soups, locally made hot dogs, and specials. A certain former contributing editor of this website who also is a former Muir Woods employee has been known to pig out… I mean over-indulge on the aforementioned locally-made hot dogs. But I digress.
The menu includes choices for Vegans, Vegetarians, Low-fat and Low-sodium diets and Diabetic diets. As noted at the top of the page, if you have special needs (or a group) you can call ahead to ensure they have what you’re looking for.
The Muir Woods Cafe and the Trading Company typically close about a half hour before the park’s closing time.
