This page contains an overview of the Sausalito City Government. Sausalito has a great city website that makes tons of information readily available online, so this page is intended as a top-level summary with links to many city website pages and other sources for more detailed information..
City Government Structure
Sausalito is governed by a five-person City Council, who are elected to staggered four-year terms. Day to day administration done by a City Manager (who is appointed by the City Council), City Attorney, City Clerk and various Department Heads.
The city has joined a website service called OpenGov.com that shares detailed annual Sausalito budgets, revenues and expenses online, What’s especially cool about the system is that it includes a tutorial to teach you how to read the charts and data. Since cities run differently than businesses, even seasoned executives can learn from that tutorial!
The complete Sausalito City Code is published here.
City Council
The Sausalito City Council usually meets on the first and third Tuesday nights of each month at 7:00 PM, but both the calendar date and the time can occasionally switch due to various factors, so you need to check the city calendar to confirm when the next meeting will be held.
Sausalito has been very proactive in making agendas of upcoming meetings available on-demand online. You can also access minutes, agendas, audio recordings and video recordings of past meetings online at the same spot (use the archives search box to find materials from past meetings).
As part of their annual planning cycle, the Council publishes a ranked list of issues they want to address in the current year. You can read the current list here.
