The Legendary Trident Rises Again!
Date: Thursday, April 23, 2009
Time: TBA
Cost: $55 per person, advance payment and reservations required.
Location: Horizons Restaurant, 558 Bridgeway, Sausalito CA 94965
Back in the 1960's and 70's The Trident was owned by the Kingston Trio, one of the most influential groups in 1950's and 60's folk music, which was one of the root musical styles of what later became "San Francisco Rock." The Youngbloods' "Get Together" and the Byrds' "Turn Turn Turn" are just two examples of late-sixties anthems that descend from those folk traditions.
The Kingston Trio's Trident was both a favorite destination for musicians of the time, both for dining and to perform. Local recording studios like The Record Plant drew the top rock performers from all over the world, and a trip here often included time at The Trident for the musicians.
The Sausalito Historical Society's fundraising dinner for this year will turn back the clock to recreate the Trident of that era, en situ at the restaurant, which is now called Horizons. The SHS is a great part of our community, and this "Trident Flashback" has to be one of the most clever concept dinners we've seen in a long time.
The dinner will feature music from the Trident's glory days, and an auction for what we are told is a dazzling array of goodies. Advance reservations are required and the event is open to only 100 people. Checks for $55 per ticket may be sent to the Sausalito Historical Society, P.O. Box 352, Sausalito, CA 94966.
I'd write more, but I want to go get my checkbook and make sure we get our ticket request in before seats run out!
