Sausalito City Hall to Host Railroad History Speaker April 20

Yes, Sausalito was served by Mass Transit in the 1920’s, with the ferry linking us to the south and the railroad to the north. By the 1960’s freeway culture had erased both links, although we were lucky enough to regain the ferries in the 1970’s.
Whether you’re a railways fan or a history buff, we think this is one you’re going to enjoy. Richard Torney, Amateur Historian and Railfan, will share historic photos taken along the path of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad Electric Interurban Route
What makes it special? He’ll show photos he’s taken of many of the same local spots in Marin for a research project in 2003, side by side with the historical images. The old photos come from the 1870’s up through the 1960’s.
If you’re 65 or older this will be a walk down memory lane from your childhood. Most importantly, for all of us it’s a reminder about the critical role that the railroad played in the development of Marin County.
