One year when I was in grad school I came home to Marin for Christmas. I soon realized that my parents were just not up for cooking a Christmas dinner.
This is back in the days before the Internet, and it took a bunch of phone calls to find a place that was serving on Christmas evening, where my folks would like the food, and that was affordable for a grad student living off a fellowship.
We were surrounded by business people stuck three time zones away from their families. The families of patients in local hospitals. Police officers on their dinner break as they worked double shifts so other members of the department could be home for Christmas with family. That experience gave me an appreciation for all the ways that Christmas dinner can escape the traditional Home for the Holidays

Whatever the reason why you may need it, each year we compile a list of Sausalito restaurants that are open on Christmas. We have just four to start with, and will add any others that we learn of.

Salito’s Crab House & Prime Rib
Another way to fake it if you have a place to eat but no kitchen to cook in: Mollie Stone’s Deli is open till 7:00 PM on Christmas Eve and till 5:00 PM on Christmas, and they just remodeled the area to add a wide variety of warm pre-prepared meals. You can pre-order complete meals from them, or just browse what they have available to take home for your personal feast.
