"Ask Annie" is where we answer readers' questions about Sausalito. Answers come from different members of our editorial and volunteer team, but a certain Editor likes alliteration so in every case we answer through Ask Annie.

Colleen writes to us to ask:
My husband and I spend a couple days in San Francisco each year around Christmas, and this year we will be staying in Sausalito.
We will be there December 21st and 22nd, staying at Hotel Sausalito. What type of events do we have to look forward to?
Colleen, we have both good news and bad news regarding your question:
The bad news is that most formal events around the Christmas holiday are held earlier in the month in Sausalito. The annual Lighted Boat Parade and Fireworks is our personal event highlight, but it is held December 14 this year.
The good news is that Sausalito at Christmas is a special place, with lots of lights and decorations as you walk around downtown. Many of the boats in the nearby marinas and harbors, both sailboats and Sausalito's famous houseboats, are also decorated.
The Holiday lights on the San Francisco waterfront are also visible from the Bridgeway Promenade.
The Hotel Sausalito is at the heart of Sausalito (we marked it on the Google map below) and is an easy walk to the ferry pier and to most of the top local restaurants and shops. In particular, as you walk around town you'll get to see the Gingerbread House Competition Tour (sponsored by the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce) where local restaurants, other businesses and even local families display inventive gingerbread houses that a panel of judges evaluates for prizes. The gingerbread houses are scattered among the local shops and restaurants so you'll get to see them as you explore the town.
You'll also have the time to walk the extra couple of blocks north to the Caledonia Street neighborhood, with its own locally-focused shops and many diverse restaurants.
We hope you have a great time, and please feel free to email us with any follow-up questions via oursausalito at gmail dot com.
