You can tell it's autumn in Sausalito. The Golden Gate Ferry retreats from its summer schedule as of next Monday. Residents of Hurricane Gulch have room to make a left turn between the groups of wobbly rental bikes coming down the hill. And now the annual Chili Cook-off is here.
How it works: The City has signed up a batch (gaggle? pride? herd? swarm?) of chili chefs. They can do all their prep work in advances, but they can't start cooking their chili until they arrive at Dunphy Park that morning.
For $10 you get an unlimited tasting wristband that entitles you to sample the fare at each booth. The first 1,000 visitors will also get "voting beans" that they can award to their favorite chili stand, and the cook with the most beans at the end of the day wins the People's Choice Award.
Official judges will also select the Best Chili and Most Creative Award winners, the latter of which is given for the best decorated booth and booth-tenders.
