As part of Phil Frank Day in Sausalito (which happens to be the late cartoonist's birthday), the Sausalito Historical Society this year is presenting a new exhibition: "Fritz (The Comic Wit of Phil Frank) Crackers."
Phil Frank's comic strip Fritz Crackers was a weekly feature of the 'Scope here in Sausalito from 1977-1984, where, as the Historical Society notes, it "gently lampooned the local scene."
The new Sausalito Historical Society exhibition allows us to see examples of the hilarious strip (like the one below), and to learn more about the famous artist behind the humor. In addition to his artistic and satiric success, Frank wrote books on Sausalito history and was a long-time president of the Historical Society.
Local sponsors include the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, the Sausalito Lions Club, and Historical Society members, and we all owe them our appreciation for backing this kind of event.
A reception to celebrate the opening will take place on Saturday, March 31, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Society's newly renovated Exhibition Gallery on the second floor of Sausalito City Hall.
