This year the theme is "Art of Peace," and the Festival has just issued the Call for Entries.
The selected works will be shown at the Bay Model Visitor Center, which is adjacent to the Festival grounds, from Thursday, August 19, through Wednesday, September 8. The Art Festival runs for just three days in September, and this exhibit includes those days but runs for a full three weeks. As a result it's a great venue for giving exposure to our top Sausalito artists.
Here's how the organizers described the theme, "The Art of Peace":
"In the course of our daily lives, we are met with a jarring barrage of challenges and an up-to-the-minute onslaught of media coverage delivering news and images of natural disasters, multinational wars, and profound economic crises. How do we counteract the impact these negative messages have on our lives? Now more than ever, we need our own escape, a refuge for renewal. Through art we can find this inner peace. Pablo Picasso wrote, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” How do you interpret peace through art?"
The exhibit seeks to display work from a wide variety of media. Artists may submit paintings, photographs, ceramics, fiber, glass, sculpture, wood, and anything that expresses the beauty of peace through visual art.
A reception for the official opening of the exhibit at the Bay Model Visitor Center will take place on Thursday, August 19 at 5:30 PM.
