The overall quality of musicianship that appears each week at DiVino and the No Name is very high, and we don't have a chance to feature all the surprise extra-special treats like when nationally renowned jazz vocvalist Lavay Smith stopped in a while ago.

We loved the Cole Tate – Joe Tate Tate-a-Tate pairing recently at the No Name, and now there's another special Cole Tate event coming Thursday night: he's doing a short-notice acoustic performance with Lynn Asher.

He's appeared with Los Lobos, Chris Isaak, John Hiatt, Clarence Clemons and Greg Allman. He's also a guy other musicians seem compelled to praise when they talk about him.

She's one of the vocalists who does gigs where she sings the Janis Joplin parts with Joplin's old band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. I've heard her — unfortunately not with Big Brother — and I can hear why she got such a challenging opportunity. She's played with many other performers, but I just don't know how to top that testimonial.

So there's not much lead time on this one, but it should be a real treat.
