Sausalito Schools Free Speaker Series for Parents Debuts Dec. 8
Date: Tuesday, December 8
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: Multipurpose Room, Bayside Elementary School, 630 Nevada St., Sausalito CA 94965
Being a parent these days is tougher than it was for the prior generation… which in turn was facing a tougher parenting environment than their elders.
That's why we think that the Sausalito-Marin City Schools have such a great idea with their new series of free speakers providing guidance to parents and a chance to discuss tough issues with education experts.
The series kicks of this Tuesday, Dec. 8 with parent educator Julie King, whose topic is "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk." Her ideas are based on the work of Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish, bestselling authors in the field.
Here's our favorite part of the District's announcement of the session: "You will leave the session with practical strategies that you can implement immediately to improve communication and discipline and enhance your relationships at home."
King says that prior participants have told her that they felt closer to their children and to each other, and calmer and more confident as parents. They report fewer conflicts with their children, less sibling rivalry and more cooperation at home. Those sound like great goals to me!
