Picnic Contest Celebrates Ambience at Jazz & Blues by the Bay July 31

What does a picnic mean to you? Gertrude Stein's Portable Feast? Homer Simpson's "Mmmmmm, barbeque!" A checkered blanket, a beret for him and a rose between her teeth?
Whatever your picnic vision, on July 31st the Sausalito Parks and Recreation Department will host a Picnic Contest at Jazz and Blues by the Bay. You can enter for free, but there are only twenty slots for participants.
Bring your personal picnic basket (or chest, or wheelbarrow, or…) filled with your gourmet creations to create the perfect ambiance. Judging categories include overall appearance, variety of dishes, creativity/uniqueness, and taste of a specific dish. The top three winners will receive prizes donated by Golden Gate Market and Trader Joe’s.
Picnic Judges include Food Network star Tyler Florence; D.J. Puffert from Il Piccolo Teatro; Demetri Rizos of the Sausalito Art Festival; Paul Rodgers of the Sausalito Lions Club; and The Spinnaker's Jeff Scharosch.
Pre-registration is recommended, and space is limited. Be sure to arrive by 5:00 PM and check in at the Parks and Recreation table located at the entrance to the park for a picnic contest number. Participants may set up their picnic on their pre-reserved table (tables must be reserved separately through the Parks and Rec Department) or a blanket on the grass. Enjoy your picnic with family and friends until judges arrive. Judging begins at 5:30 pm.
