Golden Gate Bridge Construction to Affect Parking, Bike Access
The Golden Gate Bridge District has announced that a series of construction closures will affect parking lots, tunnels and the adjacent sidewalks between July 31 and October 26, 2009. There will be three closures from late July through August 21, one in September and a final closure in October.
Only the closures in September and October appear to have the potential to affect northbound traffic, and none should affect southbound lanes. Detailed information is available from the Bridge District here.
Only small areas of the Bridge will be affected by each construction project, but if that spot is where you're planning to go that day it's a big deal.
The map below shows where the work will be done. Here's a summary of the closures:
Weekend of July 31-August 2: Tunnel beneath the toll plaza connecting East and West sides of Bridge, west access road to that tunnel.
Weekend of August 7-9: Bridge employee parking lot.
Weekend of August 21-23: Tunnel beneath the toll plaza connecting East and West sides of Bridge, west access road to that tunnel.
Weekend of September 18-20: Entire south parking lot of Golden Gate Bridge. Tunnel beneath the toll plaza connecting East and West sides of Bridge, west access road to that tunnel.
Weekend of October 25-26: Northbound 101 curb lane near the Toll Plaza, and the entrance from that lane to the south Golden Gate Bridge parking lot.
