Another Sea Lion Pup Stranded in Downtown Sausalito
For the second time in three weeks, a weakened sea lion pup has been rescued by the Marine Mammal Center from the rocky shores of downtown Sausalito. This is part of a pattern previously reported by the Center, in which the number of sea lion strandings in 2009 is running at double the rate of the previous year.

This photo was taken by Evaristo Buendia today (July 3) as a Sausalito police offcer monitored the young sea lion to make sure it did not reach Bridgeway prior to the arrival of the Marine Mammal Center recuers. In parts of Sausalito the main road through town runs within ten feet of the shore of the Bay, making it possible for sea lions to reach the pavement.
Hats off to the Marine Mammal Center (whom we think ought to be in line for a Presidential Medal for all the great work they do) and to the Sausalito Police Dept. for responding to a wide variety of problems on the streets of Sausalito.
