Sausalito City Council Says No to Fish Growth Plan
The Sausalito City Council this week rejected a request from local fresh seafood restaurant Fish to expand its total indoor and outdoor seating capacity from 70 to 120 people. The plan had originally been approved by the Planning Commission, but after public hearings raised objections the City Council rejected the idea.
In the recommendation for disapproval, city staff noted that the general plan for the Marinship area in northern Sausalito supports light industrial uses, and that restaurants are to be small places that serve local workers and residents. Fish has been very successful: it's #6 on our June 2009 Best Restaurants in Sausalito list, the top-rated seafood restaurant in Sausalito acccording to our surveys. This has made Fish a regional draw that brings visitors to Sausalito, which places it at odds with the Marinship plan in the eyes of some residents.
We'll keep you posted on any revised plans or appeals that may come up.
