If you’re new to Sausalito, after you disembark from the Ferry, or find a parking place for your car, or if you just parked (and locked!) your bike after a long ride you just want a human being to talk to for suggestions or to confirm directions to where you want to go.
For those moments the (great) people at the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce have provided the Sausalito Visitors Center, just across the parking lot from the Ferry Pier at the foot of El Portal, one block from Bridgeway at the heart of Downtown Sausalito. This larger facility replaced the old visitor kiosk (which still stands a few steps away near the pier) in 2021, and includes a wide assortment of clothing, art and gifts from local sources. What I like best is that most of their items are not the usual tourist fare, and reflect the personality of our little town.
The hours they’re open vary with the season (we recommend calling ahead to check), but generally the Center is open during mid-day times when the ferry service is most heavily traveled by visitors, from late morning till late afternoon. During the winter it is typically closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The people there will be happy to answer your questions, give you a visitors map printed by the Chamber, and make suggestions.
