Fast Forward SummaryTM: Located adjacent to Muir Beach, the overlook gives a 210-degree-plus view of the California coastline from the top of a shoreline promontory. The overlook was originally constructed to allow local military forces to scan the waters north of the Golden Gate for hostile ships. As you can see from the photo and video, the pathway down to the observation area is steep, and you’ll want to supervise kids closely. If you are afraid of heights the edge of the Overlook area may not be a place you enjoy standing because the cliff is very steep.
