This small road turnout offers parking for great views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It has more spaces (spread around two turns of the road) compared to some of the other turnouts because it also serves hikers going up to the top of Hawk Hill, and visitors to the un-restored SF-87 Nike Missile Control Base located just above this parking area. The photo below shows the tunnel that leads up to the old missile base.
Hawk Hill got its name because many different kinds of hawks and other raptors will ride the wind currents swept up the cliffs of the Marin Headlands from the Golden Gate strait, so it’s a favorite spot both for bird lovers and for biologists.
