Ayala Cove at Angel Island State Park
Ayala Cove is the gateway to Angel Island State Park for almost all visitors to the island. The Angel Island Ferry Pier is located here, with connections to Tiburon’s Angel Island Ferry Pier as well as Pier 39 / Pier 41 at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco.
The ferry landing area has large public bathrooms and spaces for each route’s passengers to line up for the next departing boat to their destination. The freight pier used by the State Park Rangers (responsible for safety in the park), the Coast Guard (responsible for boating safety) and the Army Corps of Engineers (responsible for removing hazards in the waterways to ensure safe passage) is also here. Only state park rangers and occasional maintenance employees actually live on the island.
Also located at Ayala Cove are:
— Angel Island Tram Tour boarding area
— Angel Island Segway Tour meeting area
— Angel Island Visitors Center
— Ayala Cove picnic areas
— Private boat dock for sail-in visitors
