Each month we survey a wide range of blogs, travel sites, online forums and ratings sites, then summarize and interpret the data to create this ranking of Sausalito area hotels. Here’s our analysis of the results from our April, 2010 surveys.
Some familiar patterns remained the same: perennial leader The Inn Above Tide took first place by a clear margin, while Hotel Sausalito and Gables Inn returned to their early 2009 pattern of running neck and neck for 2nd place.
Cavallo Point Lodge continued to raise its score as the process of fixing the design elements that were great in theory but not in practice at the property converted from the old Fort Baker army base.
The rankings drama took place farther down the list with two properties that have changed hands this year. Casa Madrona has gone through a bankruptcy, an interim management company and now a sale that has brought in the new management team. The interim team should get some credit, because on our latest survey Casa Madrona passed the newly-renamed Larkspur Hotel in Mill Valley, formerly the Holiday Inn Express.
As the summer season starts it will be interesting to see how these two new management teams do on the chart. Casa Madrona has suffered from a lack of maintenance and investment for years. If the new owners “do it right” the hotel could become the grande dame of Sausalito.
