Smitty’s Bar
In a town that is swamped with visitors each summer and weekends all year round, Sausalito natives have struggled to preserve a place that is intended for the locals. Caledonia St. is that place, and Smitty’s is a long-time tradition within it. They’ll celebrate their 75th anniversary in 2013. One of our friends recently said about a co-worker, “If I ever want to find my buddy in that hour between work and going home for dinner, all I have to do is go to Smitty’s!” They have pool tables, shuffleboard and TV’s… but this is not a good place to watch a game if you’re not a Giants, A’s, 49ers, Raiders or Warriors fan. If you’re looking for the imported stereotypes of Marin and pseudo-sophisticated young professionals (did I really let my born-in-Marin-and-resents-the-stereotypes self say that?) this is not your place. If you’re looking to be part of the local Sausalito mix and a place that hasn’t been changed a lot, Smitty’s will feel like home. They have Karaoke the first Monday night each month, and their June Pig Feed is a highlight of the Caledonia St. year.
