Mollie Stone’s Deli
The fact that Mollie Stone’s is a big supermarket turns off some people who prefer a smaller, more intimate deli. Nevertheless, the company has been locally owned for its entire history. The people who work in the deli are very nice and they use quality ingredients.
Insiders Tip: The device that dispenses numbers so they call up customers in order has been moved from being attached to a pole in front of the center part of the deli case. Its new location is just to the right of the the “hot box” pre-cooked meals area, on the border between it and the regular deli case.
There are some items here that you won’t find at most of the other places in town (except Venice Gourmet Dell) like Prosciutto di Parma; soppressata, toscana and genoa salami in different levels of mild to spicy, etc.. They also have a sandwich card where if you buy 6 (sorry, they changed that), I mean 8 (oops, they changed that), I mean 10 sandwiches you get the next sandwich free, and a parallel salads card that works the same way.
Insiders Tip: Sometimes people are disappointed because eight people are working in this area but only two or three are serving customers. The kitchen here makes many pre-cooked meals that are sold in packages in front of the deli cases and elsewhere in the store. The people who seem to be ignoring the line of customers are working on those packaged meals and catering orders, and they are not supposed to interact with the public.
Something else that people should know about Mollie Stone’s Market Deli? Did you believe the urban legend that this place started in the Summer of Love as the “Mo’ o’ Less Stoned Market”, which is actually an urban legend which I just made up? Please let us know!
