Q: Is there (or was there) a restaurant in Sausalito called Jacks? – Kate
A: Kate, you may be thinking of Zack's, which was a very famous local spot for many years, and which we cover in our Restaurantrs RIP section. The location is now Paradise Bay / Salito's as it gradually goes through a name change.
Q: Do you have any insights into food delivery in Sausalito? I moved here about a year ago, and while we love to eat out here sometimes food delivery is in order! We pretty much only know of pizza and chinese, (Domino's, Dario's, Stefano's in MV,Tommy's Wok, and Feng Nian are all we have discovered so far). Do you have any tips for me on food restaurants that deliver to Sausalito that I've missed? — Kate
A: Kate, you've covered the local options we know about that deliver for themselves. For an extra charge, however, Room Service of Marin will pick up your meal from any local restaurant and bring it to your home. Sausalito restaurants with their menus already on the Room Service website include Buckeye Roadhouse and Saylor's, but they recently added the "pick up anywhere" option. Q: I read online that a lot of famous people live in Marin County, where Sausalito is located. Where in Sausalito are we most likely to see someone famous?
A: Sausalito is not like parts of Los Angeles, where poparazzi cluster in neighborhoods and rush to lie in wait outside a restaurant when they get a tip that an actor or sports star is inside. That ritual seems silly when you walk by as the cluster forms on the sidewalk, since whomever they're stalking already has thousands of images on Google!
If you do encounter celebrities here at lunch or dinner, please do remember that getting interrupted ten times during your meal is not fun. If you ask for an autograph or say hello, doing so after they leave their table is a far better way to go.
As a writer I've seen how this all plays out while working with celebrities. At a dinner with one TV star the restaurant manager placed us in a back corner of the room to try to give the star some privacy. He was only interrupted five times as he ate, and counted himself lucky! He still took the time to thank and shake the hand of each server and busboy before he left, which left everyone in the room beaming.
With those guidelines in mind, there is no one "celebrity spot" in Sausalito (comparable to The Trident in the 60's and 70's, where music legends routinely were in the crowd). The places celebrities turn up are the same top-rated restaurants we cover on this site. I've crossed paths with faces I recognized most often at Poggio, but I eat there regularly so the pattern may tell you more about me than about local celebrities!
