“Ask Annie” is our page where readers ask questions about Sausalito. We archive the questions here by category so that they form an FAQ for all things Sausalito. Q: We’re coming to Sausalito for the Fourth of July Fireworks. Where is the best place to park? A: Before I answer your “where” question I’m going to jump right to the “when.” Wherever you park, get here early and enjoy the day, because by late afternoon there will be no parking places free and you’ll be one of the urban bedouins circling endlessly waiting for someone to leave. Come for lunch and enjoy the parade, picnic and what is likely to be a beautiful day in Sausalito. Now that we’ve got you here early, we’d advise parking in one of the city lots downtown. It’s not cheap, but you’ll have a spot where you know you won’t get an even more expensive parking ticket. Normally we’d advise you to take the ferry to come to Sausalito, but the last ferry of the day will have departed for San Francisco before the fireworks begin. If you park in a residential area check signs carefully: if it says you need a residents sticker to park there the rules are enforced strictly on July 4. Final hint: June is the time to start thinking about making those 4th of July lunch and dinner reservations at the top restaurants. Waiting till the last few days means that all the best places and times will be booked up.
